Adam and Sarah Do Philadelphia
the day started out bright and early. we left our apartment at 5:15AM to head to the Manchester airport in New Hampshire.
some friendly faces greeted us at the border
i took it as a good sign
upon arriving at Manchester Airport, and going through security (where Adam was VIOLATED for having a Rollos in his pocket). i was met with some surprising, and dissapointing news.
Southwest has open seating. meaning you don't have an assigned seat. meaning first come first serve. meaning i would probably get squeezed in between a mewling infant and a gargantuan fat man. i remember saying something like "Southwest is so ghetto, i bet when you get bumped they give out a Walmart gift certificate". haha.
this is my "what do you mean Southwest has open seating?" face
luckily, we did get seats together. unluckily, there were "low celings" in Philly which meant a prompt deplanement for us, at which point we made our way to the airport bar for some beverages to lift our spirits ahh yes. bloody maries and beer at 8:19AM. good times.
look at the cute purple luggage truck!
and we were on our way. it was a very short flight (just under 50 minutes) and considering it was only $29 each way, i think it was a much better deal than driving. there were TONS of sox fans on the plane. i think 80% of our flight was people going to see the Sox play, which was made for a rowdy, fun flight.
and then, we were in Philly.
because of the aforementioned "low ceilings" and late departure from Manchester: we didn't get to our hotel until 12:15 and we had already purchased tickets to a 12:30 sold-out tour of Citizens Bank Park (where the Phillies play). so we literally checked in, threw our luggage in our room and ran downstairs to get a cab.
this is where the Phillies USED to play (where the Vet once was)
and here is where they play NOW
not too shabby, eh?
the tour was informative and fun, and totally worth the $10. i encourage anyone who visits Philly to try it out.
Adam in the dugout, using the Bullpen phone
Curt Schilling, who was REALLY psyched that everyone on the tour ran down to the field to take his picture while he was warming up
we went to a game later that night, but took no pictures of it because We Do What We Want. and because the batteries died and we forgot to recharge them. oops. it was a great game though. :-)
the next day, we awoke early and sought brunch, which appeared to us in the form of a large olive
The Continental is a really cute bar/restaurant on the corner of Chestnut and 18th Street. They have amazing drinks, chic rat-pack inspired decor and a bar on the roof. what more could you want?
i knew right away what i wanted (bloody mary, spinach and cheese frittata). but adam needed to study the menu
he eventually got the pancakes. they were yummy.
we went to another game that afternoon which there are also no pictures of because it was too hot to be carrying around any extra weight, even the extra weight of a camera.
but we did go out that night
don't i look chic?
and i got very very very drunk. it's best that there are no photos.
the next day, after some coaxing from Adam (coaxing meaning several tylenol and a gallon of gatorade) we made our way out to take in some Philadelphia culture.
hello, Philadelphia Museum of Art
view from the steps
a litte air guitar for you
isn't it ionic? (don't you think?)
haha, i kill me!
now, a big deal was made of this secret Duchamp exhibit. to make a long story short, Marcel Duchamps was this artist who created mostly what you might call "modern art" and what i would call "weird crap". but he is famous, and gave alot of money to the museum. before he died, he created a "mixed media tableaux" to be on permanent exhibit at the museum. it is a wooden doorway with two eye holes cut out through which you may behold his mysterious visionary art.
um, yeah
it's a naked woman, with her coot aimed at the eyehole and a glass of something in her hand.
REAL visionary, marcel! (adam certainly stared at it for a long time, though) :-)
so after we had absorbed enough culture, we headed to another part of town to take in some history
work,liberty bell!
independence hall
some dude (our first president...george something)
work, abe!
and then we took a cab back to the hotel, grabbed our luggage and headed to the airport, where there were SEVERAL snafus involved in eventually getting to manchester...but we did it.
and we were sad to be home
so, all in all it was a great trip. we got alot done/saw alot in a very short period of time and i fell in love with the city (what can i say, i'm easy!) so we will be back soon, Philly, never fear!

Adam and Sarah Do Pelham, New Hampshire
(sounds super exotic, i know!)
this past Sunday, Adam and i attended the wedding of his grandpa Emery (Pap) and the lovely Betty.
it was held at Harris Pelham Inn which is right on a gorgeous lake and really is an ideal place for a wedding ceremony/reception.
i love this gazebo.
here comes the bride...(her dress was this two piece cream colored confection with pastel embroidered flowers...so gorgeous! and props to a bride in her 60s wearing any kind of white!)
it was 95 degrees out on sunday and to say it was humid would be an understatement. i didn't take any more pictures of the ceremony because i was basically stuck to my chair. i will say that it was lovely, and she had each of her 5 bridesmaids in the same dress, but different pastel colors which i think was a fantastic idea.
i really liked the centerpieces
the happy couple!
their wedding song was a george strait number whose name escapes me but they both sang along to each other while they danced and it was SO SWEET.
the other happy couple ;-)
the cutest flower girls EVER: sarah and sidney
adam's sister in law, beth. she is so cute.
bustin' a move
all of betty and emery's family
all in all it was a really nice time. i had my some preconceieved notions about what a wedding would be like when the bride and groom are both in their late 60s..but it was every bit as sweet and romantic and fun as the weddings i have been to of people my own age.
so, congratulations betty and emery!

ADAM AND SARAH DO OLD ORCHARD BEACH adam and i left early saturday morning. destination? old orchard beach, maine to spend some quality time with his parents (i.e. so he could help his dad build a deck and i could lounge poolside)
i am PSYCHED.
adam is HUNGOVER
here is our luggage for ONE night in maine. 75% of it is mine.
and we're off! wollaston beach, down the street from our apartment.
doing nearly anything requires driving through boston.
there really is a light at the end of the tunnel.
i love the zakim bridge. when i was 18 years old i went to Lenny Zakim's birthday party. it was a good time.
love it, love it, love it.
are we there yet?
the scenery becomes more "maine-ish"
Bienvenido a Maine~
the effects of 2 hours of wind on a formerly fabulous coiffure
i get excited about this bridge too, because it means we're almost there!
aw yeah
mais oui, we are definitely in le Maine.
the woods surrounding adam's parents' place.
in case we couldn't tell...
a snoozin' racoon
this small pond is stocked with lots of fish for fishing!
where i will spend most of my time.
this is the saddest trash can i have ever seen. don't make the panda cry!
the men, hard at work
pretty waterfall!
their dog, the adorable mallory!
i love her!
i have a slight obsession with kitchy yard ornaments
lighthouse lamp
it was gorgeous out the whole weekend!
see?
Adam and I have been to Old Orchard Beach about 4 or 5 times. although this time we didn't, we normally hit the pier for some shopping and dining out in the sun.
the pier of old orchard beach
there is also an AMAZING seaside carnival there year round called Palace Playland
so, in conclusion: Old Orchard Beach is alot of fun, the weather was gorgeous, Adam and I had a fantastic time, and i suck at resizing photos (i am working on it though!)
